The RGC Story
The Raleigh Garden Club was founded in 1925 “to
encourage beautification of the parks, streets, and
gardens of the community and to aid in the
protection of trees, shrubs, wild flowers and
wildlife.”
Raleigh Garden Club programs reflect the many
aspects of gardening (e.g. flower arranging,
horticulture environment, birds, butterflies). We
offer educational programs at our monthly
meetings and support study groups within our
organization.
In past years, The Raleigh Garden Club was
instrumental in the planting of trees to beautify the
city. We hold an annual Arbor Day observance in
cooperation with the City of Raleigh. The Club has
supported ground beautification at the N.C.
Museum of Art and planted a garden at the
Tammy Lynn Center for Children. Annual
contributions are made through the Garden Club
of NC, Inc., to support the Daniel Boone Native
Gardens in Boone, the Elizabethan Garden in
Manteo, and The North Carolina Nature
Conservancy.
In 1997, the Raleigh Garden Club Scholarship
Fund was established. Through proceeds from
plant sales and by contributions from members,
the Raleigh Garden Club scholarship is awarded
each year to a North Carolina State University
student in the Horticulture Department. The Club
also supports the scholarship fund of The Garden
Club of North Carolina, Inc.
