President Vicki Corporon will share a PowerPoint presentation of photos she and her husband Joe took of the Huntington Gardens in San Marino, California, featuring the newly added Chinese Garden. Altogether there are 120 acres of landscaped areas open to the public, featuring the following themed areas: the Australian Garden, the California Garden, the Camellia Garden, the Children’s Garden, the Chinese Garden, the Desert Garden, the Herb Garden, the Japanese Garden, the Jungle Garden, the Palm Garden, the Ranch Garden, the Shakespeare Garden, and the Subtropical Garden—not to mention the conservatory, the lily ponds, and the spectacular garden sculptures and fountains. The Huntington is also noted for its world-renown art collections and library—and perhaps these garden photos will prompt you to visit the Huntington and tour the works in person.
In the 90s Vicki Corporon taught English at Huntington Middle School for eight years and served on a district committee of three that first linked the San Marino School System to the Huntington Library resources. During those eight years, she regularly visited the Huntington gardens as a source of inspiration. She and Joe have made several California vacations that included the Huntington in recent years.
Committee chairs will also provide an overview of their planned activities for the year … promises of an exciting array of choices to broaden our minds, engage our civic outreach, and stimulate us to find joy and personal expression through gardening and floral design.
Together, we’ll “Dig in and grow plants, friendships and fun!”
