Past Event November 2018 - Fall Planted Bulbs for Your Garden with Clay Carter

Clay’s presentation will include the following:

  • A brief history of the Dutch settlement at Terra Ceia and its bulb-growing tradition

  • An explanation of bulb structure and why these plants are so garden worthy

  • A review of some old garden daffodils that are always good choices

  • An exploration of some great bulb flowering plants that can grace the garden in every season

  • Questions and answers

Clay Carter is the Director of Personal Enrichment Programs, Beaufort County Community College He was born and reared in Washington, NC. He has lived on Main Street in Washington since 1980, and he hopes not to move until he is carried to Oakdale Cemetery. He is a graduate of Staunton Military Academy and East Carolina University. Since 1987 he has been employed by Beaufort County Community College where he began his career as a Greenhouse and Gardening Instructor at Creswell Prison. In the intervening years, he has worked with every department at the Community College. Currently he serves as the Director of Personal Enrichment Programs. He has given gardening programs and workshops for Tryon Palace, Richmond Men’s Garden Club, Chapel Hill Garden Club, Virginia Herb Society, and others.
