Chimney Swifts have been described as aerial acrobats.  Prior to fall migration, they form communal roosts that range from an extended family group of half a dozen birds to hundreds or even thousands of birds.  The Prairie Ridge Research Center of the Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh has broken ground on a large chimney tower that will provide a valuable habitat for the Chimney Swifts and advance our understanding of these fascinating birds.
