PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
Before: The Shade Garden as it looks now.
After: New plantings will provide more color and new paths will give the garden a more natural feel.
The Raleigh Garden Club has a long history of involvement with the Raleigh Rose Garden. In honor of our 100th anniversary and our legacy with the garden, the club, in cooperation with Raleigh Parks, is initiating a fundraising drive to provide the resources to enhance the ornamental shade garden adjacent to the rose garden.
Location of the Shade Garden to be renovated.
The planned landscape package will incorporate natural elements and improvements that will draw in visitors and enhance their experience with natural walkways, added plant material, and seating which will result in a clean, safe, and attractive venue area for future guests, events, and weddings in the gardens.
More about the project:
RLT/Rose Garden, Shade Garden Renovation
The overall project goal will include excavating outdated pavers and pathways to replace with curvilinear chapel hill grit paths and stone edging. This particular area of the Raleigh Rose Garden has incredibly large, existing, Dawn Redwood trees which were planted by the Raleigh Garden Club in the 1970s. Specimen trees and extensive perennials with multi-season floral and foliar interest to more closely match the theme of recent garden updates will be incorporated. The landscape at the Rose Garden provides all individuals an opportunity to enjoy Raleigh Parks’ sole, and most beautiful rose garden. This project will help increase the high-level services the park provides and provide a calm outdoor respite for the community and all park visitors.
