This talk will explore what defines a native plant, why native species matter, and how to identify which plants are native to North Carolina’s Piedmont region. You’ll learn guiding principles for gardening with natives and leave with plant suggestions to help you cultivate a beautiful, sustainable garden that benefits people and the planet.

11:00am Program- Japan has been growing and displaying plants for as long as any culture in the world. The gardens and nurseries reflect a stripped down but elegant aesthetic and the most unusual specimens respectively. Between those 2 opposing horticultural styles and the natural scenic beauty, Japan is a horticultural paradise.

11:00 Program- Did you know that Americans are spending between 1.5 to 2 billion dollars a year on container gardens? Bryce will talk to us about how to really take advantage of the benefits of “Pot-Scaping” or “Gardening in Containers”. He will give us helpful tips on how we can be successful gardeners even when there’s limited space for plants and time for digging in the dirt.

11:00am Program- Lynn’s will focus on using principles of design in the home landscape. These principles can help the homeowner whether starting a new landscape, renovating an old one, or trying to figure out where to put a favorite new plant.

11:00am Program- Mona King explores the interconnectedness of human creativity and the natural world through her work. She emphasizes an holistic approach using nature-based materials.

11:00am Program- Katie Pollock and Lauren Faye Welsh each arrived at landscape architecture by through serpentine paths, united by a shared passion for meaningful places. Through their studies, they’ve developed a deep appreciation for the role of public spaces in enhancing community well-being and supporting ecological restoration. At NCSU, they’ve found a strong foundation of support and education, empowering them to engage in impactful projects across North Carolina. Through these experiences, they hope to help people connect more deeply to the places they cherish—ensuring these spaces can be protected and enjoyed for generations to come.

11:00am Program- RGC Laurie McDowell will present a recap of the year’s accomplishments with a PowerPoint presentation. Following our tradition, members are asked to bring a bloom from their own gardens to create the table centerpieces this month. Awards and citations will round out the meeting.
