Penny Amato
Penny Amato is an active member of the Raleigh Garden Club, having served in numerous elected and volunteer positions in the club. She is retired from NC State University where she was a research scientist in the department of Food, Bioprocessing and Nutrition Sciences for over 25 years. In addition to gardening, she and her husband love cats and enjoy watching British detective shows. Her interest in the Raleigh Rose Garden begins when fellow RGC member Erica Winston recruited her to write a biography about Elizabeth Lawrence in anticipation of our 100th anniversary. After delving into Elizabeth’s Raleigh years, she became hooked on discovering more about RGC’s history and has worked along with Erica to tell our story to the Raleigh community.
